Sahed gets life imprisonment
A Dhaka court has sentenced the chairman of Regent Group and Regent Hospital Sahed Karim alias Md Sahed to life imprisonment in a case filed under Arms Act with Uttara police station.
Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge K M Imrul Kayesh passed the order on Monday.
Earlier, the same court took the charge sheet into cognizance in the case and framed charges against him on August 27.
The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Sahed on July 16 when he was reportedly trying to flee to India by a boat.
On July 19, the DB conducted a special drive with Sahed and recovered a pistol, a bullet, a magazine, 10 bottles of phensedyl, and five bottles of liquor from an abandoned car on Sonargaon Janapath Road in Uttara.
Later, the detectives filed two cases with Uttara West police station under Narcotics Control Act and Arms Act.
Law enforcers raided Mirpur and Uttara branches of Regent Hospital on July 6 on charge of issuing fake Covid-19 certificates and charging the admitted patients exorbitant fees.
The Regent Group head office along with both the hospitals was sealed off and 16 people, including the chairman, were sued on charge of issuing fake coronavirus test reports.
