Abrar murder: Charges framed against 25 accused
A Dhaka court has started the trial of BUET student Abrar Fahad murder case with framing charges against 25 fellow students accused in the killing.
Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal-1 Judge Abu Zafar Md Kamruzzaman framed the charges on Tuesday.
The court also fixed September 20 for recording deposition of witnesses in the case.
Of the accused, 22 are now in jail and have pleaded not guilty after the court read out the charges against them during the indictment.
They are Mehedi Hasan Rasel, Md Anik Sarker, Ifti Mosharraf Sokal, Md Mehedi Hasan Rabin, Md Meftahul Islam Jeon, Muntasir Alam Jemmy, Khandaker Tabakhkharul Islam Tanvir, Md Muzahidur Rahman, Muhtasim Fuad, Md Moniruzzaman Monir, Md Akash Hossen, Hossen Mohammad Toha, Majedur Rahman, Shamim Billah, Moaz Abu Huraira, ASM Nazmus Sadat Istiaque Ahmmed Munna, Amit Saha, Md Mizanur Rahman alias Mizan, Shamsul Arefin Rafat, Morhsed Amartya Islam and SM Mahmud Setu.
The fugitives accused are Morsheduzzaman Jisan, Ehteshamul Rabbi Tanim and Muztaba Rafid.
Abrar, a second-year student of electrical and electronic engineering department of Buet, died after he was brutally beaten by some BCL men at Sher-e-Bangla hall of the university in the early hours of October 7 last year.
Victim’s father Barkatullah filed the case with Chawkbazar Police Station in Dhaka against 19 students of BUET after the murder.
On November 13 last year, the detective branch of police submitted a charge sheet against 25 Buet students in the case. Of them, 22 accused are now in jail and rests of three have been absconding since the incident took place.
