N’ganj mosque blast: Death toll rises to 31
Two more people, who sustained burn injuries in a blast at a mosque in Narayanganj, died on Thursday afternoon while undergoing treatment at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, bringing death toll from the incident to 31.
The latest victims were Nazrul Islam, 50, and Sheikh Farid, 21, confirmed the burn institute residential surgeon Partha Shanker.
The other victims are Mostofa Kamal, 34, Rifat, 18, Maenuddin, 12, Russel, 34, Md Nayan, 27, Bahar Uddin, 55, Jubayer, 18, Sabbir, 21, Joynal, 50, Quddus Bapari, 72, Zulhas, 35, Jewel, 7, Delwar Hossen, 48, Junaed, 17, Abdul Malek, 60, Kanchan Hawlader, 53, Jamal, 40, Nizam, 40, Nadim, 45, Humayun Kabir, 70, Ibrahim, 43, Mohammad Rashed, 30, Shamim Hasan, 45, Mohammad Ali Master, 55, Abul Bashar Molla, 51, Monir Farazi, 30, Imran 30, Abdul Hannan, 50, and Abdus Satter, 40.
Five people who suffered burn injuries in the incident are now receiving treatment at Intensive Care Unit of the burn institute.
Six air-conditioner at Baitus Salah Jame Mosque in Sadar upazila exploded during Isha prayer on Friday night, leaving more than 50 Muslim worshippers more or less burn injured.
Among them, critically hurt 37 were admitted to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.
Out of them, sole patient named Mamun Pradhan returned home after treatment.
Narayanganj Fire Service and Civil Defence deputy assistant director Abdullah Al Arefin had said gas accumulated inside the mosque from a pipeline leak may have caused the blast.
Three probe bodies were formed by the fire service and civil defence, Titas Gas authorities, and the district administration over the incident.
