Coronavirus death toll stands at 4,634

The deaths related to the novel coronavirus reached 4,634 in Bangladesh on Thursday as the country recorded 41 more fatalities from the virus in the past 24 hours.

During the period, 1,892 people newly caught the deadly virus, taking the country's tally to 3,32,970, the Directorate General of Health Services said in a press release.

The press statement said 15,559 samples were tested in the past day. With this, the number of total sample tests reached 16,90,011.

However, 2,746 more COVID-19 patients made recovery, bringing the total recovery to 2,33,550.

Bangladesh first reported its COVID-19 cases on March 8. Since then the country has been struggling to limit spread of the highly contagious virus.

Coronavirus first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December last year, and then spread to newer countries and territories.

As of Thursday, the epidemic infected 28,052,145 people and killed 908,475 across the globe, according to Worldometer, a website which compiles number of new coronavirus cases and deaths from it.

However, total number of people who recovered from the coronavirus pandemic reached 20,120,362 across the world.
