Death toll rises to 18 in N’ganj mosque AC blast

The death toll in an air conditioner (AC) blast at a mosque in Sadar upazila of Narayanganj has risen to 18 as 17 more people died on Saturday. 

All of them died while undergoing treatment at Sheikh Hasina Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute. 

Dr Samanta Lal Sen, coordinator of the institute, confirmed the deaths to Jago News.

The deceased were identified as Bahar Uddin, 55, Russel, 34, Md Nayan, 27, Kanchan Hawlader, 53, Rifat, 18, Mostofa Kamal, 34, Jubayer, 18, Sabbir, 21, Quddus Bepari, 72, Humayun Kabir, 70, Ibrahim, 43, Delwar Hossen, 48, Junaed, 17, Jamal, 40, Joynal Abedin, 40, Maenuddin, 12, and Jewel, 7.

Earlier, a child named Jwel died after being burnt from the explosion.

According to the locals, the incident took place at Baitus Salah Jame Mosque at Fatulla as the AC inside the mosque blasted with a loud noise around 8.45pm on Friday, leaving at least 50 people injured. Among the injured, 37 people were sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
