Court accepts charge sheet against ex-DIG Prisons Partha

A Dhaka court has accepted the charge sheet against suspended Sylhet range Deputy Inspector General  of Prisons Partha Gopal Banik in a case filed over recovery of Tk 80 lakh in illegal wealth from his Dhaka house.

Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge K M Imrul Kayes accepted the charge on Monday and also transferred it to Dhaka Special Judges Court-10 for hearing on charge framing of the case.

Earlier on August 24, Md Salauddin, Deputy Director of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), filed the charge sheet against Partha.

On July 29, 2019, the commission arrested Partha after it had found Tk 80 lakh in his Kalabagan residence in Dhaka.

Just before his arrest, Partha appeared before the commission’s Segunbagicha head office as he was summoned to face interrogation over corruption allegations against him while serving at Chattogram central jail.

Following his arrest, the home ministry suspended Partha from his post.

He was sent to jail the following day after he was produced before a Dhaka court.
