Bangladesh coronavirus cases surpass 3 lakh

The number of novel coronavirus cases surpassed 3 lakh in Bangladesh on Wednesday, with 2,519 more people caught the virus in the past 24 hours. 

With this, the country's total coronavirus cases stood at 3,20,147, the Directorate General of Health Services said in a press release.

In the last 24 hours, 54 more deaths from the virus were recorded, taking the tally to 4,082. 

The press statement said 15,070 samples were tested in the past day. With this, the number of total sample tests reached 14,85,085.

However, 3,427 more COVID-19 patients made recovery, bringing the total recovery to 1,90,183.

Bangladesh first reported its COVID-19 cases on March 8. Since then the country has been struggling to limit spread of the highly contagious virus.

Coronavirus first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December last year, and then spread to newer countries and territories.

As of Wednesday, the epidemic infected 24,083,507 people and killed 823,917 across the globe, according to Worldometer, a website which compiles number of new coronavirus cases and deaths from it.

However, total number of people who recovered from the coronavirus pandemic reached 16,626,444 across the world.
