Coronavirus deaths in Bangladesh cross 3,500

The deaths related to the novel coronavirus in Bangladesh exceeded 3,500 on Wednesday as the country recorded 42 more fatalities from the virus in the past 24 hours.

With this, the country's coronavirus death tally stood at 3,513, the Directorate General of Health Services said in a press statement today. 

In the past day, 2,995 more people caught the deadly virus, taking the total cases to 2,66,498.

During the period, 14,751 samples were tested. With this, the number of total sample tests reached 13,20,739

However, 1,117 more COVID-19 patients made recovery, bringing the total recovery to 1,53,089, the DGHS also said.

Bangladesh first reported its COVID-19 cases on March 8. Since then the country has been struggling to limit spread of the highly contagious virus. 

Coronavirus first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December last year, and then spread to newer countries and territories.

As of Saturday, the epidemic infected 19,557,170 people and killed 724,340 across the globe, according to Worldometer, a website which compiles number of new coronavirus cases and deaths from it.

However, total number of people who recovered from the coronavirus pandemic reached 12,557,755 across the world.
