Bangladesh coronavirus cases cross 2,50,000

The number of coronavirus cases in Bangladesh exceeded 2,50,000 on Friday as the country recorded 2,851 more infections in the past 24 hours.

With this, the country's total cases stood at 2,52,502, prof Nasima Sultana, additional director general of the Directorate General of Health Services, said at its daily health bulletin today.

In the last 24 hours, the country reported 27 more COVID-19 fatalities, bringing the total to 3,333, she said. 

The daily count of new cases and deaths was found after testing 12,699 more samples across the country.

However, 1,45,584 coronavirus patients have, so far, made recovery, with 1,760 recovered in the past day, prof Nasima also said.

Bangladesh first reported its COVID-19 cases on March 8. Since then the country has been struggling to limit spread of the highly contagious virus.

Coronavirus first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December last year, and then spread to newer countries and territories.

As of Friday, the epidemic infected 19,275,495 people and killed 717,936 across the globe, according to Worldometer, a website which compiles number of new coronavirus cases and deaths from it.

However, total number of people who recovered from the coronavirus pandemic reached 12,372,782 across the world.
