Death toll from coronavirus rises to 3,267

Bangladesh recorded 33 more fatalities from the novel coronavirus in the past 24 hours, bringing the total to 3,267, according to the Directorate General of Health Services.

During the period, 2,654 more coronavirus cases were recorded, taking the total infections to 2,46,674.

DGHS additional director general prof Nasima Sultana came up with the disclosure at its daily health bulletin on Wednesday.

The daily count of new cases and deaths was found after testing 11,160 samples across the country in last 24 hours.

Some 1,41,750 coronavirus patients have, so far, made recovery, with 1,890 recovered in the past day, the official said.

Bangladesh first reported its COVID-19 cases on March 8. Since then the country has been struggling to limit spread of the highly contagious virus.

Coronavirus first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December last year, and then spread to newer countries and territories.

As of Wednesday, the epidemic infected 18,720,473 people and killed 704,645 across the globe, according to Worldometer, a website which compiles number of new coronavirus cases and deaths from it.

However, total number of people who recovered from the coronavirus pandemic reached 11,936,417 across the world.
