Sharp rise in coronavirus deaths again
Bangladesh on Tuesday witnessed a sharp increase in deaths related to the novel coronavirus than that of last couple of days.
The country recorded 50 more fatalities from the virus in the past 24 hours, bringing the total to 3,234, according to the Directorate General of Health Services.
In the last 24 hours, 1,918 more coronavirus cases were recorded, taking the total infections to 2,44,020.
DGHS additional director general prof Nasima Sultana came up with the disclosure at its daily health bulletin today.
The daily count of new cases and deaths was found after testing 7,112 samples across the country in last 24 hours.
Some 1,39,860 coronavirus patients have, so far, made recovery, with 1,955 recovered in the past day, the official said.
Bangladesh first reported its COVID-19 cases on March 8. Since then the country has been struggling to limit spread of the highly contagious virus.
Coronavirus first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December last year, and then spread to newer countries and territories.
As of Tuesday, the epidemic infected 18,456,909 people and killed 697,708 across the globe, according to Worldometer, a website which compiles number of new coronavirus cases and deaths from it.
However, total number of people who recovered from the coronavirus pandemic reached 11,691,156 across the world.
