Bangladesh records 48 more Covid-19 deaths in 24hrs

The deaths tally from coronavirus in Bangladesh reached 3,083 with 48 new fatalities in the past 24 hours, according to the Directorate General of Health Services. 

The country's total number of coronavirus cases stood at 234,889 with 2,695 people newly caught the highly contagious disease. 

Professor Nasima Sultana, Additional Director General of the DGHS, came up with the disclosure at its daily health bulletin on Thursday.

She said 12,937 samples were tested in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of sample tests to 11,64,195 in the country.

Some 132,960 coronavirus patients have, so far, made recovery, with 2,668 recovered in the past day.

Prof Nasima said new infection rate was 20.83 percent. 

The rate of recovery, so far, was 56.61 percent while mortality rate 1.31 percent, the oficial added.

Bangladesh first reported its COVID-19 cases on March 8. Since then the country has been witnessing sharp increase in the infections and deaths. 

Coronavirus first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December last year, and then spread to newer countries and territories.

As of Thursday, the epidemic infected 17,201,686 people and killed 670,463 across the globe, according to Worldometer, a website which compiles number of new coronavirus cases and deaths from it.

However, total number of people who recovered from the coronavirus pandemic reached 10,716,850 across the world.
