Coronavirus: 54 die, 2275 infected, 1792 recover in 24 hours

The death toll from coronavirus has reached 2,928 as 54 more people died from the disease in the last 24 hours.

Besides, 2,275 more have been infected with the virus, raising the number of such cases to 223,453. 

Professor Nasima Sultana, ADG of the Directorate General of Health Services, said this during a press briefing on Sunday.

In the last 24 hours, 10,078 samples were examined and out of them 2,275 got positive results for the virus. Apart from, 1,792 more recovered from the virus, taking the total recoveries to 123,882, she said.

Bangladesh reported its first three cases of COVID-19 on March 8. 

The new coronavirus pandemic first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December last year. The World Health Organisation declared the coronavirus crisis a pandemic on March 11.

The deadly virus spread to 213 countries and territories, killing some 648,655 people globally, according to Worldometer, a website which compiles number of new coronavirus cases and deaths from it.

As many as 16,217,628 people worldwide caught the virus. Among them, 9,920,708 people recovered from the virus, the website said.
