Govt to strongly monitor rawhide collection at fixed prices

The monitoring teams formed by the Ministry of Commerce will work from the Eid day to ensure the collection of rawhides of sacrificial animals across the country.

On the occasion of the Eid-ul-Azha, the Commerce Ministry has taken a comprehensive plan to monitor the sale of rawhides of sacrificial animals at fixed rates as well as collection, storage and preservation of the rawhides and salt supply for rawhides, said a handout.

The ministry’s central joint coordinating committee, central coordination and monitoring committee, control room, special monitoring teams for Dhaka and Natore, divisional and district-level monitoring teams comprising representatives from different departments and agencies under the ministry, and all the district-level monitoring committees comprising the officials of the Directorate of National Consumers' Right Protection will work to implement the plan.

A workshop in this regard was held on Saturday for the officials from the ministry, its different departments and agencies.

The workshop, chaired by Commerce Secretary Dr Md Jafar Uddin, stressed the need for maintaining the quality of rawhides and he sought cooperation of the media in raising public awareness about it across the country.

At the workshop, it was decided that the ministry will keep salt supply and its prices under its surveillance to maintain a smooth supply chain and monitor strictly all the matters related to rawhides.
