Bangladeshi gets 10 years for human trafficking in Malaysia

A Bangladeshi man was jailed for 10 years after pleading guilty to three counts of trafficking his countrymen in Wang Kelian, Perlis last year.

Nurul Islam, 32, admitted to trafficking in Mohamad Nurbasya at around 4pm between October 2014 and May 3 last year.

For the second count, he was charged with trafficking in a person by the name of Delwar between October 2014 and April last year.

He was also accused of trafficking in a person named Joy at around 4am between November 2014 and May 3 last year.

He pleaded guilty to the charges.

Judicial Commissioner Abu Bakar Katar ordered the sentences for the three charges to run concurrently from the date of arrest on May 2, 2016.

In other cases, Myanmar nationals Shahidullah @ Syahidullah, 18, and Momotin @ Dus Mohamad, 19, were each charged with trafficking a migrant, Mohd Belal, also a Myanmar national, at Bukit Wang Burma, Wang Kelian between August 2014 and March 10 last year, reports Malaysian daily The Star.

Thai national Biau Wong Chumpo, 46, was charged with trafficking in Bangladesh national Md Tifajir Husin at around 1.30am between October 2014 and May 2 last year.

The three claimed trial to the charges.
