A Dhaka court has placed the chairman of Regent Group and Regent Hospital Sahed Karim on a 10-day remand for his alleged involvement in providing fake coronavirus certificates and embezzling money from patients

The court has also placed Masud Parvez, the managing director of the hospital, on a 10-day and Tariqul Islam alias Tareque Shibli, close associate of Shahed, on a 7-day remand.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Jasim passed the order after SM Gaffarul Alam, an inspector of Detective Branch (DB) of police and also the investigation officer of the case, produced them before the court with a 10-day remand prayer.

On Wednesday, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Sahed on the bank of Labangaboti canal in Komarpur village under Satkhira’s Debhata upazila around 5am.

On July 6, RAB conducted separate drives at the Uttara and Mirpur branches of Regent Hospital and arrested eight people for issuing fake Covid-19 test certificates and collecting money from COVID-19 patients.

The next day, RAB filed a case against 17 people, including Sahed, with Uttara West police station.
