44 more coronavirus deaths recorded in 24hrs
The death tally from coronavirus in Bangladesh stood at 2,096 as the country recorded 44 more fatalities in the past 24 hours.
The virus cases reached 165,618, with 3,201 new infections in the past day, prof Nasima Sultana, ADG of DGHS, said at its daily health bulletin on Monday.
She said 68 labs across the country tested 14,245 samples in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of sample tests to 860,307 in the country.
A total of 76,149 coronavirus patients have, so far, made recovery, with 3,524 recovered in the past day.
Prof Nasima said in the bulletin that detection rate of new patients was 22.47 percent.
The rate of recovery, so far, was 45.98 percent while mortality rate 1.27 percent, the oficial also said.
Bangladesh first reported its COVID-19 cases on March 8. Since then the country has been witnessing sharp increase in the infections and deaths.
Coronavirus first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December last year, and then spread to newer countries and territories.
As of Monday, the epidemic infected 11,575,681 people and killed 537,093 across the globe, according to Worldometer, a website which compiles number of new coronavirus cases and deaths from it.
However, total number of people who recovered from the coronavirus pandemic reached 6,546,602 across the world.
