Three bandits killed in 'shootout' in Sundarbans

Three bandits were killed in a reported gunfight with the members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Satkhira Range area of Sundarbans on Saturday night.

Of them, two were identified as Shariful Islam, 24, a resident of Haridah area in the range, and Habibur Rahman, 24, of Basukhali areas in Ashashuni upazila of Satkhira.

According to Khulna RAB-6, a team of the elite force conducted drives in different areas of Satkhira range in Sundarbans between Thursday night and early Sunday.

During the drives, three bandits were killed in gun battle with RAB members in Haridah area on Saturday night.

RAB said they also recovered five firearms, 33 rounds of bullets and arms from the robbers.  

At a press conference held at Khulna RAB-6 office this afternoon, newly appointed RAB DG Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun said those try to commit robbery in Sundarbans will face such fate.

"None will be spared from our detective surveillance. So, you (bandits) give up the path of robbery," he added.
