Islamic Foundation ex-DG Afzal dies of cancer

Shamim Mohammad Afzal, former Director General (DG) of the Islamic Foundation Bangladesh (IFA), died of cancer on Thursday night. He was 65.

He breathed his last at Central Hospital in the capital at 10:20pm.

Misbahur Rahman Chowdhury, governor of the Islamic Foundation’s Board of Governors, confirmed his death. 

He left behind his wife, a daughter and many well-wishers to mourn his death.

According to the source, he was admitted to the hospital from his residence at Mohammadpur around 10pm after his health condition deteriorated where he died at 10:20pm.

He will be buried after Jumma prayer at his village in Ashuganj upazila in Brahmanbaria.

Islamic Foundation, ministers and different organisations have expressed deep shock at the demise of the former DG of Islamic Foundation.

He was DG of the Islamic Foundation from 2009 to 2019.
