Kamal Lohani dies of COVID-19

Veteran journalist and cultural activist Kamal Lohani, who tested positive for coronavirus on Friday, has passed away. He was 85.

He breathed his last while undergoing treatment at the Intensive Care Unit of Sheikh Russell Gastro Liver Institute and Hospital in the capital’s Mohakhali on Saturday morning.

His son Sagar Lohani confirmed the death to Jago News.

Earlier, Kamal was admitted to a hospital in the middle of last month with kidney and lungs related complications.

He was taken back home after two weeks as the number of Covid-19 cases were increasing.

Lohani was awarded Ekushey Padak in 2015. He served as the Director General of Shilpakala Academy from April 2009 until April 2011.

He got his first job as journalist in the Daily Millat in 1955. He joined as a secretary at Chhayanaut, a cultural organization, in 1962. He formed a left cultural organization - Kranti in 1967.
