Govt to give Tk 700cr loan to foreign returnees

The government has taken an initiative to provide Tk 700 crore loan to the foreign returnees who were badly affected by coronavirus, Expatriates' Welfare Ministry secretary Ahmed Munirus Saleheen said on Thursday.

He made the disclosure at the inauguration programme of Brac's cash Tk 3 crore assistance activities for 7,250 migrants who returned home losing job or being helpless. 

Dr Saleheen said the government is working to ensure welfare of the expatriates but now needs an united efforts to this end. 

"Brac has taken a timely initiative with cash Tk 3 crore support. Likewise we all have to stand by them (abroad returnees)," the secretary added.

"Government has also taken step to disburse Tk 700 crore loan among the overseas returnees," Dr Saleheen said.

He also urged BAIRA, others donors and different non-government organizations to extend their helping hands to the affected migrants.
