A balanced budget to tackle economic fallout from COVID-19, says Quader

Road, Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Friday said the budget proposed for 2020-21FY is a balanced one to recover the country’s economy hit by COVID-19 pandemic.

He came up with the remark at a post-budget briefing through videoconferencing from Awami League president’s political office at Dhanmondi, reports UNB.

Mentioning that the budget was prepared  in a different reality and context, Quader said, “This is a realistic charter of transforming the existing crisis into possibility.”

He also said this budget is the result of time-befitting and brave thought  of Sheikh Hasina government to take the country ahead by maintaining balance between lives and livelihood.

Different countries in the world are conducting research to invent vaccine for Covid-19 disease and as soon as it is prepared will be brought to the country, Quader said adding that a plan was included in the budget proposal in this regard.

Social safety has been considered as the third priority sector in the budget to ease sufferings of working people affected by general holidays and lockdown, he added.

Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal on Thursday proposed the national budget of Tk 568,000 crore for the 2020-21 fiscal year in Parliament.
