Allocation for old, widow, husband-abandoned, disabled go up

Bringing addional around 11 lakh people under old-age, widow, husband-abandoned, and disabled allowances has been proposed in the budget. 

Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal on Thursday proposed the additional inclusion in the proposed budget for 2020-21 fiscal year.

He said all poor elderly persons in most poverty-prone 100 upazilas would be brought under old-age allowances.

As a result, 5 lakh more beneficiaries would be added under the programme and for this, addional Tk 300 crore will be allocated.

All widows and husband-abandoned women in most poverty-prone 100 upazilas would be brought under widow and husband-abandoned allowances, Kamal said. 

Newly 3.50 lakh beneficiaries would be included under the allowances programme and additional allocation would be Tk 210 for this.

And 2.55 lakh more disabled people would be added under disabled allowances and for this Tk 229.50cr would be allotted, the minister added.
