Death warrant read out to Quasem Ali

Jamaat-e-Islami leader Mir Quasem Ali’s death warrant has been read out to the convicted war criminal at Kashimpur Central Jail in Gazipur on Tuesday morning.

Prasanta Kumar Bonik, jail super of Kashimpur Central Jail-2 confirmed the matter. Earlier, the death warrant reached the jail on Monday night.

The warrant was issued on Monday evening after three justices of the tribunal singed the full verdict of the Supreme Court that upheld the death penalty handed over to Mir Quasem Ali.

Earlier in the day, the Supreme Court (SC) released full text of its judgement that upheld death for Quasem, also known as the moneyman of Jamaat-e-Islami.

The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) in November 2014 sentenced Quasem to death for atrocities committed during the liberation war in 1971.
