JMB man killed in ‘gunfight’ with police

A member of Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) was killed in ‘gunfight’ with police.

The incident took place at Bagmara of Godagari upazila in Rajshahi early Tuesday. The victim is Jamal Uddin, 28, village of Babudaingpara of the upazila.

He was an accomplice of suicide bomb attacker at Ahmadiyya mosque in the district.

Officer-in-charge of Charghat Police Station Nibaron Chandra Barmon said that, four police members were killed in the gunfight. The injured are- Sub Inspector Abdul Rahim, Constable Mahfuz and Sub Inspector of Detective Branch Mahfuz. The injured men were sent to Rajshahi Police Lines Hospital, he added.

He added that, Jamal was arrested from Babu Daing area of Chapainawabganj sadar upazila. His cohorts fired at law enforcers while they along with Jamal went to Foradpur area of Godagari in a bid to recover arms. Law enforcers also retaliated for self-defense that triggered a ‘gunfight’. At one stage, Jamal was killed receiving bullet.
