Nearly 250 media workers catch coronavirus

The media workers in Bangladesh like elsewhere in the globe are being infected with the coronavirus significantly as they have to continue professional duties amid the disease' fast outbreak.

Some 244 staff of 79 media houses contracted COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus, and three died from the pathogen as of Wednesday.

The deceased were Mostafa Kamal Syed, 78, programme head of private channel NTV, Sumon Mahmud, one of organizers of liberation war and senior journalist, and Humayun Kabir Khokan, chief reporter of Daily Somoyer Alo. 

Among the infected mediamen, 73 won their battle against the pandemic. 

Bangladesh on March 8 this year first confirmed its coronavirus cases, and since then it has been seen an increase in both infections and fatalities.

Some 55,140 people tested positive for COVID-19 in Bangladesh and 746 died from the virus till date.
