Coronavirus cases in police force exceed 5000

Bangladesh police members are being infected with the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) at alarming rate, with 5,129 caught the disease as of Monday.

In the past 24 hours, the deadly virus infected 241 police personnel, the highest number in a single day.    

It, so far, claimed 15 lives in the force, said the sources in police headquarters.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has been hardest hit with 1658 cops contracted the virus.

A total of 1876 police members recovered from COVID-19. 

Bangladesh confirmed its first COVID-19 cases on March 8, and since then it has been seeing hike in the number of infections and deaths.

The coronavirus infections in the country stood at 49,534, and deaths from the disease 672 till date.
