Bangladesh coronavirus deaths surpass 600; new cases 1764
The coronavirus related deaths in Bangladesh surpassed 600 after the country on Saturday recorded 28 more fatalities.
In the past 24 hours, 9,987 samples were examined. Out of those, 1764 tested positive for coronavirus, taking the total to 44,608, DGHS's ADG prof Dr Nasima Sultana said.
During the period, 28 more people died from the deadly disease, making the tally to 610, she mentioned in Directorate General of Health Services' regular bulletin on the pathogen.
The official also said a total of 9,375 COVID-19 patients recovered, with 360 new ones.
She also said that a total of 2,97,094 samples were examined since the outbreak started in the country.
Prof Nasima called on all to stay at home and follow health guidelines issued by the health department to stem the transmission of the pathogen.
Bangladesh first reported its coronavirus cases on March 8. Since then the country has been witnessing increase in the infections and deaths.
The highly contagious virus first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December last year, and then spread to 213 countries and territories.
As of Saturday, the pathogen infected 6,035,097 people and killed 366,920 across the globe, according to Worldometer, a website which compiles number of new coronavirus cases and deaths from it.
However, total recovery from the coronavirus pandemic reached 2,661,776 across the world.
