Bangladesh coronavirus cases rise by 2029 to 40,321

Bangladesh on Thursday recorded the biggest daily jump of 2029 cases of the novel coronavirus to stand at 40,321.

It was found in newly examined 9,310 samples that 2029 more people tested positive for COVID-19, DGHS's ADG prof Dr Nasima Sultana said.

In the past 24 hours, 15 more people died from the deadly disease, making the tally to 559, she mentioned in Directorate General of Health Services' regular bulletin on the pathogen.

The official also said a total of 8,425 COVID-19 patients recovered, with 500 new ones.

She also said that a total of 2,75,776 samples were examined since the outbreak started in the country.

Prof Nasima called on all to stay at home and follow health guidelines issued by the health department to stem the transmission of the pathogen.

Bangladesh first reported its coronavirus cases on March 8. Since then the country has been witnessing increase in the infections and deaths.

The highly contagious virus first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December last year, and then spread to 213 countries and territories.

As of Thursday, the pathogen infected 5,803,785 people and killed 357,714 across the globe, according to Worldometer, a website which compiles number of new coronavirus cases and deaths from it.

However, total recovery from the coronavirus pandemic reached 2,509,344 across the world.
