SI Mosharraf becomes 12th cop to die from coronavirus

Bangladesh police force have witnessed deaths of its 12 members from the novel coronavirus, with a significant increase in COVID-19 cases in the force.

Mosharraf Hossain, a sub-inspector at Rajshahi Range Reserve, became the 12th victim of the disease.   

The SI breathed his last at Christian Mission Hospital, Rajshahi around 11pm on Friday. He aged around 50, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) spokesman confirmed thi.

The police members are at greater risk to catch coronavirus as they have to work outside to make people follow health guidelines issued for limiting the outbreak, and social distancing.

As of May 21, 3,235 cops tested poitive for COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus.

The deadly virus is rising fast in Bangladesh, with total cases 30,205, and fatalities 432 since the pathogen was detected in the country on March 8.
