Cyclone Amphan: Operations in Ctg port halted

All kinds of operational activities in Chattogram seaport has been suspended as the cyclonic storm 'Amphan' approaches Bangladesh.

Md Zafar Alam, board member (administration) of the port, told Jago News around 3:30pm on Tuesday.

He said, "The decision of issuing alert-3 was taken yesterday as part of preparation to overcome cyclone Amphan. From this afternoon all sorts of activities in the port were suspended." 

Met office said the very severe cyclone storm 'Amphan' over west central Bay and adjoining area moved north-northeastwards and now lies over the same area. 

At 12 noon, it was centered about 810 kilometers southwest of Chattogram port, 765km southwest of Cox's Bazar port, 695km south-southwest of Mongla port and 690km south-southwest of Payra port. 

It is likely to move in a north-northeasterly direction and may cross Bangladesh coast between Khulna-Chattogram during late night May 19, the Met Office said.
