Cyclone 'Amphan' likely to hit Bangladesh May 19: Minister

The cyclonic storm Amphan is likely to hit the coastal districts of Bangladesh on May 19 night, said State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Md Enamur Rahman.

The government has preparation to overcome the disaster, he briefed the journalits at the Secretariat on Sunday.

"As per review of the meteorological department, cyclone Amphan may hit the coastal ditricts of Bangladesh on May 19 night, if it does not change its speed and direction."

The state minister said that the DCs of coastal districts have already been instructed to take necessary measures to increase the number of shelter centers so that people can maintain social distance there to avoid coronavirus transmission.

As per the latest bulletin issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the cyclone lay centred about 980 km south of Paradip in Odisha of India, 1,130 km south-southwest of Digha in West Bengal and 1,250 km south-southwest of Khepupara in Bangladesh.
