First prisoner dies from coronavirus in Bangladesh

A man convicted in a murder case has died from coronavirus. He is the first prisoner of Bangladesh die from COVID-19.

The man, hailing from Kanaighat upazila in Sylhet, breathed his last at isolation centre of Sylhet Shaheed Shamsuddin Hospital on Sunday. 

His sample was examined at PCR lab of Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital on Monday that had tested positive.

The ward, where the man was confined, has been put under lockdown after his death.

Dr Anisur Rahman, Assistant Director of Sylhet Divisional Health Directorate, confirmed the death to Jago News.

Bangladesh reported first three cases of coronavirus on March 8. So far, 15,691 people have been infected with coronavirus and 239 died from the disease in the country.
