Bangladesh records highest daily deaths, new cases of COVID-19
Bangladesh today confirmed 14 more deaths from coronavirus or COVID-19 and 887 new cases of infection.
With this, the death toll has risen to 228 from the virus and a total of 14,657 people have been infected so far.
Professor Dr Nasima Sultana, Additional Director General of Health Directorate, said in the regular health bulletin through online on Sunday.
In the last 24 hours, 5,738 samples were examined and out of them 887 got positive results for the virus. 236 more have also recovered, raising the number of cured patients to 2,650, she said.
Bangladesh reported its first three cases of COVID-19 on March 8.
The new coronavirus pandemic first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December last year.
The World Health Organisation declared the coronavirus crisis a pandemic on March 11.
The deadly virus spread to 212 countries and territories, killing some 280,594 people globally, according to Worldometer, a website which compiles number of new coronavirus cases and deaths from it.
As many as 4,115,626 people worldwide caught the virus. Among them, 1,446,325 people recovered from the virus, the website said.
