Coronavirus deaths in Bangladesh near 200

Bangladesh on Thursday recorded 13 more deaths from the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), bringing the country's tally to 199. 

In the past 24 hours, 13 people died from COVID-19. Among them, eight were male and five female, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said in a press release this afternoon.

Out of the deceased, six were sexagenarian, four aged above 50, two above 40, and one between 11-20, the press release read.

Earlier this afternoon, DGHS ADG (administration) prof Dr Nasima Sultana in regular coronavirus bulletin informed about only the new cases of the virus cases and recovery from it but said deaths number would be disclosed later.

She said 706 people newly contracted the deadly virus, raising the total cases in the country to 12,425.

In last 24 hours, 130 more COVID-19 patients recovered, taking the total recovery to 1910.    

Bangladesh first reported its coronavirus cases on March 8. Since then the country has been witnessing increase in the infections and deaths. 

COVID-19 first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December last year, and then spread to 212 countries and territories.

As of Tuesday the epidemic infected 3,843,555 people and killed 265,668 across the globe, according to Worldometer, a website which compiles number of new coronavirus cases and deaths from it.

However, total recovery from the coronavirus pandemic reached 1,314,586 across the world.
