447 members of DMP infected with coronavirus

A total of 447 members of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) have been infected with coronavirus.

As of Sunday, two Additional Deputy Commissioners and an Assistant Commissioner are among the infected members of DMP, said Ashik Hasan, Assistant Commissioner of DMP Headquarters. 

Besides, 10 Inspectors, 26 Sub Inspectors, 2 Sergeants, 53 Assistant Sub Inspectors, 22 Nayeks, 314 constables, 7 members of Ansar and 10 civil staffs are among the infected people. 

According to the police headquarters, 854 police members have been infected with coronavirus as of Sunday. So far, five members of police died. 

Bangladesh reported its first three cases of COVID-19 on March 8. 

The new coronavirus pandemic first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December last year.

The World Health Organisation declared the coronavirus crisis a pandemic on March 11.

The deadly virus spread to 212 countries and territories, killing some 248,285 people globally, according to Worldometer, a website which compiles number of new coronavirus cases and deaths from it.
