30,000 starts Ramadan fasting in Shariatpur
At least 30,000 people in Bangladesh's Shariatpur district started Ramadan fasting from Friday to coincide with Saudi Arabia.
Sureswar shrine peer (spiritual guide) Syed Touhidul Hossain Shaheen Nuri confirmed this.
He said the moon of Ramadan appeared in the sky in the Middle East countries, including Saudi Arabia. "That is why, we've fasted on Friday to coincide with Saudi Arabia."
All devotees and murid (committed one) of Sureswar peer's dargah have been doing so for around 100 years, he said, adding that their celebration of Eid will also be accordingly.
Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. The Muslims around the world refrain themselves from eating and drinking from sunrise to sunset each day in the whole month.
Though people of some areas began to fast from today, entire Bangladesh will start the month of Ramadan from tomorrow (Saturday).
