Sampadak Parishad demands withdrawal of case against 2 editors

The Sampadak Parishad has expressed its deep and serious concern at the filing of the case under the Digital Security Act (DSA) against Mohiuddin Sarker, acting editor of Jago News and Toufique Imrose Khaledi, editor-in-chief of Bdnews for reporting on misappropriation of OMS rice at Baliadangi upazila in Thakurgaon.

“We demand the immediate withdrawal of the case against the two editors and urge all concerned to desist from such practice of attempting to stifle the media,” the Sampadak Parishad said in a statement issued on Tuesday.

It also said: “We are concerned by the fact that the case has been filed under the draconian DSA without issuing any rejoinder or lodging any compliant with the Press Council whose job it is to deliberate on such matters.”

At a time when the media along with the government are working round the clock against severe odds to fight the coronavirus pandemic such efforts to harass and intimidate the media is highly regrettable, the statement added.
