4 farmers killed in Sunamganj lightning

Four farmers were killed in separate incidents of lightning strikes in four upazilas of the district on Saturday morning, reports UNB.

In Shalla upazila, the farmer Shangkar Sarker, 28, son of Surendra Sarker of Narayanpur village in Habibpur union, was killed by a lightning strike at Bandarbil haor.

Locals said that the lightning struck Shangkar when he was returning home amid storm around 11am, leaving him critically injured.

Later, he was taken to upazila hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.

In Dirai upazila, the farmer Taposh Miah, 30, hailing from Joluska village in Azmiriganj upazila of Habiganj district, was killed in a lightning strike while he was cutting paddy at Chayar haor.

In Jagannathpur upazila, the farmer Md Shipon Miah, son of late Tobarok Ullah, resident of Baudhoron village in Holdipur union, died in the lightning strike in Noluar haor.

Besides, in Dakhshin Sunamganj upazila, another farmer Farid Miah, 35, son of Amirul Islam, resident of Uttar Gazinagar village, died along with his two cattle being struck by a thunderbolt at Gazinagar haor in the morning.

Md Mizanur Rahman, superintendent of Sunamganj police confirmed the incidents.
