First coronavirus patient detected in Feni

A young man has become the first person to contract the novel coronavirus in Bangladesh's South-Eastern district of Feni.

Resident of West Madhugram under Radhanagar union in Chhagalanaiya upazila, the man works at a mobile company in Dhaka's Mirpur.

He came home from Dhaka on March 25, and fell sick. Later, his sample was collected and sent to Bangladesh Institute of Tropical and Infectious Diseases (BITID) in Chattogram.

The test report came coronavirus (also called COVID-19) positive on Thursday night, Feni civil surgeon Dr Sazzad Hossain confirmed.

Coronavirus kept spreading to newer districts of Bangladesh since the country first confirmed its cases of the deadly virus on March 8. 

Some 1,572 people caught the novel coronavirus and 60 died from the virus in the country as of Thursday
