A person, who has recently returned from Chilla (spending some nights in Tabligh Jamaat's missions), has tested positive for the novel coronavirus in Rangpur.

With this, the number of coronavirus cases in the district stood at four, civil surgeon Hiramba Kumar Roy confirmed on Thursday.

He said samples of 54 people were examined at Rangpur Medical College Hospital. Of them, an octogenarian member of Tabligh Jamaat was diagnosed with the virus, officially called COVID-19.

Local sources said the elderly man went to his daughter's home in Rangpur city on Saturday after he returned from Chilla in Dhaka.

He was admitted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital on Monday night after he fell sick.

Following this, his daughter's home was put on lockdown, the sources added.

Some 1,572 people caught the novel coronavirus and 60 died from the virus in Bangladesh as of Thursday since the country detected its first cases on March 8.
