Bangladesh coronavirus cases jump to 1,572, deaths 60
The number of novel coronavirus cases have risen to 1,572 in Bangladesh while the country's death toll from the virus stood at 60.
In the past 24 hours, samples of 2,119 people were examined. Of them, 341 people tested positive for COVID-19, the highest single-day spike.
During the period, 10 more coronavirus patients died, the highest death record in a single day, ADG of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) prof Nasima Sultana said on Thursday.
With this, coronavirus patients are now 1,572 and deaths from the virus 60 in the country, she added. Today no recovery from the epidemic was reported, the official also mentioned.
Among the dead, seven were men and three women. Out of the deceased, six were residents of capital Dhaka, said prof Nasima in DGHS's regular bulletin on coronavirus.
She also called upon all to stay home and follow coronavirus advices of the health department.
Bangladesh first reported its coronavirus cases on March 8. Since then the country has been witnessing increase in the infections and deaths.
COVID-19, official name of the coronavirus, first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December last year, and then spread to 210 countries and territories.
As of Thursday, the epidemic infected 2,088,663 people and killed 134,755 across the globe, according to Worldometer, a website which compiles number of new coronavirus cases and deaths from it.
However, total recovery from the coronavirus pandemic reached 516,010 across the world.
