Chairman's son arrested for assaulting journalist
Police have arrested a local chairman's son in a case lodged for assaulting a journalist bringing allegation of stealing mobile against him in Borhanuddin upazila of Bhola.
Arrested Nabil Haider is the younger son of Jasshim Uddin, chairman of Boro Manik Union Parishad under the upazila.
He was arrested from their home on Wednesday afternoon, said additional police superintendent (Lalmohan circle) Md Raselur Rahman.
Borhanuddin Police Station officer in-charge Md Enamul Haque said attacked journalist Sagor Chowdhury registered a case with the police station accusing Nabil and unidentified five others.
Sagor alleged that Nabil brutally attacked him after he raised allegation of embezzling rice allotted for fishermen against his father chairman Jashim Uddin.
"Chairman Jashim Uddin distributed highest 20 kgs of rice against each fisherman but government allocation was 40 kgs of rice for per registered one. I informed Borhanuddin Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Bashir Gazi," Sagor said.
"Besides, I captured the event of transferring rice from the UP to another place at night," he also said, adding that my efforts angered the chairman's younger son.
"Nabil called me to Rajmoni Cinema Hall on Tuesday morning, and started beating up me saying that I tried to thieve his mobile. He also circulated the live scene of beating me on facebook," the journalist said.
Later, some locals rescued him and in association with my family members admitted me at Bhola Sadar Hospital, Sagor added.
