Hindu priest murder: 4 JMB militants get death
A Rajshahi court today sentenced four members of banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) to death for the murder of a Hindu priest, Jaggeshwar Roy, in Panchagarh in 2016.
Rajshahi Speedy Trial Tribunal Anup Kumar Roy passed the order around 11am.
The death-row convicts are Jahangir Hossain alias Rajib, 30, Rajibul Islam Molla, Alamgir Hossain, 35, and Ramzan Ali, 22. Of them, Rajibul is on the run.
On February 21, 2016, Jaggeshwar Roy, the principal of Sonto Gaurio Temple in Debiganj, was slaughtered on the verandah of his house by two assailants while neighbour Gopal Chandra Roy, 35, received bullet injuries as he tried to save the priest.
Later, Jaggeshwar’s brother Rabindranath Roy filed a murder case against 10 people. Debiganj police also filed two cases against them under Arms Act and Explosives Act.
