Murder accused died in police custody

A murder case accused has died in police custody in Jamalpur’s Sharishabari upazila early Monday, hours after he was arrested from Dhaka.

Police claimed that, Hashem, an accused of murdering his wife was trying to commit suicide. However, his family alleged he was tortured to death.

Billal Uddin, officer-in-charge of Sharishabari Police Station said, police caught Hashem from Dhaka’s Gulshan area on Sunday evening. He was taken to Jamalpur around midnight.

Hashem’s wife died last April 14. Autopsy later revealed that she was strangulated. A case was filed in this regard on Sunday.
