Attack on journo during city polls: 4 more arrested
Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) today arrested four more people from different parts in Dhaka in connection with the attack on journalist Mostafizur Rahman Sumon during city polls.
The arrestees are Alauddin, 26, Masud Miah, 20, Rasel Hossen, 35 and Opu Miah, 24. Opu Miah is the brother-in-law of newly elected councilor of Dhaka North City Corporation’s 34 No ward Sheikh Mohammad Hossen.
With them, so far five people were arrested in the incident.
They were directly involved in the attack, said RAB-2 commander Lt. Colonel Ashik Billah adding that, they were identified from the still pictures and video footages of the attack.
They were handed over to Mohammadpur Police Station, he added.
Sumon was attacked while taking photos of a gathering of Awami League activists in Rayerbazar area on Dhaka city corporation election day. Sumon was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where he had to get six stitches on his head. Later an attempt to murder case was filed with Mohammadpur Police Station.
