Eight road accidents take place in Jhenidah each week

People of Southwestern district Jhenidah witness eight road accidents in average every week that injure average 60 people and kill three, showing about no effects of Road Transport Act, 2018 enacted in November last year.    

Roads in the district are becoming unsafe for people to move because of the drivers' reckless driving and competition to overtake another vehicle. 

According to Jhenidah Fire Service and Civil Defense, some 38 people received injuries and three died in 21 road accidents in the district in November, 2019. As many as 102 were injured and four killed in 39 accident in December last year. In January of 2020, 31 road crashes took place that claimed 35 hurt and 11 dead.

Information of Jhenidah Sadar Hospital said some 224 people got admitted in the hospital after being injured in road accidents in November last year. Among them, eight succumbed to their injuries. In December last year, 290 came to take treatment and out of them, 10 died. In January of 2020, 225 people underwent treatment and seven among them died. 

As per the aforesaid two statistics, average eight road accidents are happening in the district every week that leave at least 60 injured and three killed. 

Jhenidah district traffic inspector Kazi Hasanuzzaman said full implementation of new Road Transport Act may take some time.
