Dhaka city polls: AL, BNP clash in Gopibagh

Supporters of the Awami League and the BNP today clashed each other during the mayoral election campaigning of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) in the capital’s Gopibagh.

The clash erupted around 1pm after BNP mayoral candidate Ishraq Hossain’s election campaign came under attack.

Ishraq and 10 to 15 people were injured in the attack, said Chairman of Bangladesh Jatiya Dal, an ally of BNP-led 20-party alliance, Advocate Syed Ehsanul Haque, who was present during the campaigning.

Haque accused the leaders and activists of Awami League for the attack.

He said they came under the attack when they were heading towards Tikatuli from Motijheel.

However, Ishraq held a press conference at his residence after the clash and said he came under the attack when he was returning to home after the election campaigning.
