PM inaugurates e-passport

Bangladesh today launched e-passport as the 119th country in the world. 

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the e-passport and automated border control management at a function at Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC) at 11am.

At the function, she received her e-Passport. Home Minister Asaduzzman Khan Kamal handed over the passport to her.

E-passport project director Brigadier General Saidur Rahman Khan presented a documentary while Immigration and Passport Directorate Director General Major General Shakil Ahmed gave welcome speech. 

Security Service Division Secretary of the Home Ministry Mohammad Shahiduzzaman and German ambassador to Bangladesh Peter Fahrenholtz also addressed in the function.  

In 2009, the government started distribution of the Machine Readable Passports (MRP).

On April 24, 2016, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina gave announcement of distributing e-passport.
