Man kills self after hacking wife, 3 others dead

A man killed himself after hacking four people, including his wife and mother-in-law, to death over a family dispute in Moulvibazar early today.

The incident took place at Pallatol tea garden area at Uttar Shahbajpur union of Barlekha upazila around 5am.  

The deceased were identified as Nirmal, 30, his wife Joly, 26, mother-in-law Laxmi and neighbour Basanta, 37, and his daughter Sheuly, 6. They all were the workers at the tea garden. 

According to police and locals, Nirmal hacked his wife during an argument in the early hours and also attacked his mother-in-law and two neighbours with a sharp weapon when they tried to save Joly. All the victims died on the spot in the attack. Later Nirmal hanged himself at his home in the tea garden.

A critically injured person was admitted to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital after the attack, said Bangladesh Tea Workers Union General Secretary Ram Bhojan Koiri.

Faruk Ahmed, Moulvibazar Superintendent of Police, confirmed the matter to Jago News.
